Free the Obamacare 15 Million

POSTED BY Doug Badger | National Review Online on June 26, 2017.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) today warned lawmakers that 15 million people will lose medical coverage next year if the Senate GOP’s health-care bill becomes law. That’s not quite accurate. CBO doesn’t believe that millions will “lose” their insurance in 2018. Instead, the agency thinks that millions will happily cancel their coverage — even those who get it for free. The reason: The … [Read more...] about Free the Obamacare 15 Million

Senate Bill Provides A Safety Net And Needed Reforms

POSTED BY Grace-Marie Turner | Forbes on June 22, 2017.

Any legislation that clears Congress under the repeal and replace banner needs to do four things: It needs to rescue millions of people in ACA exchange plans now who are at risk of losing their coverage because of ObamaCare’s multiple failures. It must provide states more flexibility in managing their Medicaid programs so they can better serve their neediest citizens. It needs to … [Read more...] about Senate Bill Provides A Safety Net And Needed Reforms

CBO Is Wrong And Its Numbers Shouldn’t Deter Needed Reform

POSTED BY Doug Badger & Grace-Marie Turner | Forbes on May 26, 2017.

Forbes

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) launched its latest mistaken Obamacare-related estimate this week, predicting that a House-passed bill to repeal and replace the embattled law would lead to 23 million more uninsured people by 2026. Although CBO itself acknowledges that this latest prediction is “especially uncertain,” one thing is especially certain: CBO is wrong. We explain why at … [Read more...] about CBO Is Wrong And Its Numbers Shouldn’t Deter Needed Reform

The CBO Bludgeon

POSTED BY Doug Badger on May 25, 2017.

Bureaucratic oracles at the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) have decreed that 23 million fewer people will have health coverage in 2026 if a House-passed bill to repeal and replace Obamacare were to become law. As with CBO’s past Obamacare-related pronouncements, corporate and social media sources are uncritically repeating that estimate, overlooking the questionable assumptions that underlie … [Read more...] about The CBO Bludgeon

CBO’s Alternate Facts about Obamacare

POSTED BY Doug Badger | National Review Online on March 16, 2017.

Millions may lose coverage next year if Congress does not repeal Obamacare. That’s not what this week’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis says, but it is reality. CBO’s estimating models seem impervious to reality. In the real world, the Obamacare exchanges are in crisis, millions of uninsured people willingly pay or avoid IRS penalties, and consumers struggle with rising premiums … [Read more...] about CBO’s Alternate Facts about Obamacare

House Repeal and Replace Bill Contains Important Conservative Reforms

POSTED BY Grace-Marie Turner | The American Conservative on March 15, 2017.

Voting against “repeal” could be the death knell for Republicans in 2018 The American Health Care Act is taking fire from all sides, not the least from the circular firing squad conservatives have formed, threatening passage of the only piece of repeal and replace legislation that House leaders say will be presented to members for a vote this year. President Trump has made it clear to Congress … [Read more...] about House Repeal and Replace Bill Contains Important Conservative Reforms

Assessing the Coverage Effects of the Affordable Care Act: A Comparison of Estimates from Recent Studies

POSTED BY Doug Badger on March 7, 2017.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has taken center stage as the Trump administration promises to repeal it. In response, proponents of the ACA argue that it extended health insurance coverage to as many as 20 million people, many of whom could lose coverage if the ACA were repealed. In “Assessing the Coverage Effects of the Affordable Care Act: A Comparison of Estimates from Recent Studies,” Galen … [Read more...] about Assessing the Coverage Effects of the Affordable Care Act: A Comparison of Estimates from Recent Studies

The Rand Paul Bill Is Worse Than Obamacare

POSTED BY Doug Badger | Forbes on March 6, 2017.

By Doug Badger and Grace-Marie Turner House Republicans are expected to roll out their highly anticipated bill to repeal and replace Obamacare this week, but a more obscure measure introduced by Rand Paul (R-KY) is gaining attention and should not escape notice. Paul, who has positioned himself as a leading conservative critic of the forthcoming GOP proposal, has sponsored a measure that … [Read more...] about The Rand Paul Bill Is Worse Than Obamacare
