Opposition to ObamaCare has reached an all-time high as the implementation date nears, driven by fears about massive new IRS powers, the rising costs of health insurance, and huge distortions in the jobs market. All this and more was forecast in our book, Why ObamaCare Is Wrong for America, and people now are seeing for themselves the impact this law is having.
Meanwhile, the administration and its allies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on an aggressive outreach effort to convince people to sign up for the coverage. Grace-Marie was interviewed regarding ObamaCare and its impact on small insurers by AM Best and by NewsDay regarding the special threat of the employer mandate on small businesses.
Speeches and sessions
Grace-Marie presented at a conference in Los Angeles, hosted by the California Association of Physicians Groups, on “Medicare Advantage: The Overlooked Cornerstone of Healthcare Reform.”
Grace-Marie traveled to Richmond for meetings with key Virginia legislators, including Sen. Walter Stosch, Sen. Ryan McDougle, and Del. John O’Bannon, M.D., to discuss the dangers of expanding Medicaid under ObamaCare.
Grace-Marie testified at a hearing on Medicaid expansion of the Pennsylvania House Health Committee, chaired by Rep. Matt Baker.
Meetings and Events
Grace-Marie was invited to take part in the Liberty Fund Colloquium in Indianapolis moderated by Dr. Richard Gunderman to discuss: “Health, Responsibility, and Liberty.”
We attended the annual Bradley Prizes celebration at the Kennedy Center, with Yuval Levin, Roger Ailes, Paul Clement, and Mitch Daniels winning the prestigious awards for 2013.
Our June Health Policy Series on Capitol Hill focused on “ObamaCare and the IRS: What You Need to Know” featuring Chris Jacobs of The Heritage Foundation and Ryan Ellis of Americans for Tax Reform.
We facilitated our monthly State Leaders call, jointly hosted by Galen Institute, the Institute for Policy Innovation, and the State Policy Network, on “Your Health Data and Privacy.” William Boyles, a longtime publisher of a consumer driven health care journal, and Laura Caliguiri, managing director of U.S. public sector health and human services at Microsoft, were our featured speakers along with special guest Chief Technology Officer Dave Meyers, also of Microsoft.
We participated in the first session and hearing of the Long Term Care Commission. We attended a session at AEI, “Will slower Medicare growth save the trust funds?” And we participated in numerous meetings with members of Congress and staff, health industry executives, and policy colleagues to discuss new initiatives in health policy.
